Meta Quest 3 Announced

After much anticipation – and with Apple almost beating them to the punch – Meta finally announced its latest device, Meta Quest 3, on June 1, 2023. Here’s a quick rundown of all the most significant news concerning this next-gen VR/MR device.

Meta hasn’t revealed everything about the forthcoming device, but what it has revealed should rouse the appetites of those eager to see VR and MR merge into one technology. With a similar design style to that of Quest 2, Quest 3 may not seem revolutionary at first. Dig a little deeper – or just note the three front-facing external cameras – and it should become apparent fairly quickly. Quest 3 improves upon its predecessor with the addition of a next-gen Snapdragon chipset, improved per-eye resolution, and Meta Reality technology.

Meta’s New Reality

Meta Reality is the name given to Meta’s method of moving between VR and MR. Full color, high fidelity passthrough will allow the fluid integration of virtual objects in real world spaces, while a slimmer, lighter design will make utilizing these capabilities more comfortable. Newly designed controllers with TruTouch haptics add to a fresh take on an established design concept. Quest 3 can even be paired with Quest Touch Pro controllers for further exploration.

Further details about Meta Quest 3 will be revealed as the device comes closer to its advertised release period of “Fall 2023,” likely at September’s Meta Connect event. Needless to say, there’s plenty to look forward to in this next phase of Meta’s immersive technologies.
