For those still bummed about Sea World’s decision to phase out its orca show, a new VR attraction coming this summer is sure to brighten your spirits. Climbing on the Kraken coaster in Orlando this summer, amusement goers will be handed VR goggles to go plunging through deep ocean underworlds. Though not the first immersive experience offered by Sea World (e.g., 3D Turtle Trek), this Deep See experience will at least soften the blow for those theme park enthusiasts who cherished their time with real-life animal encounters. Sea World executives hope the negative side of using VR rather than real-life interaction will be outweighed by the unique experiences and engaging education that virtual reality can bring to the theme park.
