While virtual reality continues to be used in various applications, a school in Leicestershire, England is one of the first to use VR technology in the public sector. The result of a partnership between Samsung and the local Fire and Rescue Service, a new road safety program enables students to experience traffic collisions in order to understand the dangers of driving often experienced by new drivers. Using Samsung’s Galaxy Gear VR to deliver the immersive experience, the VF4 360 may be paving the way for other public sectors, such as police and ambulance services, to turn to virtual reality training and awareness. Samsung has reported 90% positive feedback from early participants of the safety program, and the company is preparing for over 12,000 students each year to experience their virtual reality crash course in road safety.
