Already sold out worldwide, Sony Corp.’s first virtual reality headset is still six weeks away from product launch. The head of their games development Shuhei Yoshida, while cautiously optimistic in public, holds high expectations for the Sony VR headset to be received well among their 40 million PS4 users and beyond. It is priced significantly below its competitors at $399, which may be why analysts estimate sales to reach at least 1.5 million devices this year and 3 million in 2017. In terms of gaming, Sony promises the release of 50 virtual reality titles by the end of this year. However, Sony also intends for their VR headsets to be used for virtual education, music, travel, socializing, and sports. Their VR headset officially hits the market on October 13th.
