Breakthroughs in using virtual reality in the health and medical fields continue to benefit care providers and those in need of care. One of the latest of these developments is how virtual reality can be used to help seniors with dementia. Encore at Avalon Park in Orlando, FL is the third senior residence in the country to test MyndVR’s virtual reality system specifically designed for helping reduce agitation and depression in patients with dementia. The immersive three- to five-minute experiences that residents will be able to try include a 1950s jazz club, a sunset on a farm, and a painter creating a flower-filled canvas. Seniors use headphones and a headset powered by a specially programmed cellphone to enjoy the 360-degree experiences.
