Virtual reality companies like Marxent and Volumental, as well as tech giants like Google, are redefining the retail shopping industry with immersive shopping experiences. Showcased at this year’s National Retail Federation (NRF) Big Show were digital options to individualize shopping experiences and enhance retailers’ abilities to serve customers in their stores, online, and even, in customers’ homes. Tango, an AR technology developed by Google, is being tested out in several big name stores, such as Gap, Wayfair, and Amazon.com. While more advanced applications are expected over the next few years, VR and AR will definitely continue impacting the market with immersive shopping experiences and brand engagement. Retailers expect these technologies to improve their ability to access new customers, improve customer loyalty, and increase profits.
