New York is not slowing down its momentum toward bringing virtual reality to the forefront of city investment. The selection of NYU Tandon School of Engineering to develop and operate the first government-funded VR/AR hub is evidence to this fact. With support from the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME), Tandon’s 6 Metrocenter building in Brooklyn will soon serve to support VR innovation, education, research, corporate investment, and distribution within the community. In addition, the VR/AR lab expects to bring jobs to the community, with a slated opening late in 2017, according to Mayor DeBlasio’s office press release.
