Working on a new prototype called “Mask,” MindMaze is developing enhanced facial-tracking capabilities to personalize VR experiences, just in time for the 2017 holiday season. Using advanced machine learning, the electrodes detect facial impulses then replicate them on a virtual avatar. Mask is purported to detect expressions 20 to 30 milliseconds before they actually appear on a user’s face. Compatible with HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Samsung Gear VR headsets, Mask will fit between the user’s face and the VR headset. Consumers will not have direct access to Mask. Instead, the VR product will be sold to these VR headset makers to incorporate into their own brand retail kits.
