Startup company Eonite seeks to make augmented and virtual reality a more accessible and fun experience for all by offering a low-cost solution for AR/VR headsets. Not only does Eonite’s solution cost less, but also it uses inside-out rather than outside-in tracking, a technological divergence from leading HTC Vive and Oculus Rift products. Eonite CEO and founder Youssri Helmy explains how the cost savings of Eonite’s Vantage Head Tracker software is derived from eliminating external sensors, which can account for as much as 30 percent savings. Instead, Eonite uses a 3D depth sensor on a camera on the headset. Other features of the Eonite’s solution include sub-millimeter accuracy, a 15-millisecond response time, and the ability to run on a tablet-class graphics processing unit (GPU).
