This week begins with another major shake up in staffing with news that the head of phone imaging for Windows has left Microsoft to take lead in image development for Nokia’s professional virtual reality camera Ozo. Most well known in the technology industry as Microsoft’s “chief imaging guru,” Juha Alakarhu will be able to further apply imaging techniques he perfected in the Lumia 920 and 950 to virtual reality applications at Nokia. With a price tag of approximately $60,000, the Nokia Ozo will demand much more “crazy technology,” for which Nokia believes Alakarhu is up for the challenge. This news begs the question as to what will become of Microsoft’s future in virtual reality imaging, although it is reported that the Lumia 950 and 950 XL are currently receiving new firmware to improve the quality of their video imaging.
