When it comes to virtual reality headsets, Qualcomm has positioned itself as a designer rather than creator of end-user products. It is no surprise, then, that HTC and Lenovo are looking at Qualcomm for the hardware design of each of their respective upcoming Daydream headsets. Industry leaders expect specifications will include wireless connectivity, a built-in Snapdragon 835 processor, inside-out tracking, a single 2,560 x 1,440 display, and built-in eye tracking. Where the HTC and Lenovo VR headsets may differ from Qualcomm’s design will be in the head mount and aesthetics, even though Qualcomm hardware will form the essentials of the both Daydream headsets. Both HTC and Lenovo headsets are slated for release later in 2017.
