When you line up the spec sheets, Google’s Pixel 2 goes head to head with iPhone 8’s 12MP camera with f/1.8 aperture lens. In the augmented reality world, this translates into, at minimum, an equal playing field. Allowing for robust tracking and 60FPS rendering, the new Pixel 2.0 camera uses the ARCore SDK to support “millions of devices” compatible with Android 7.0 Nougat and above. Apple’s ARKit SDK claims to push AR to hundreds of millions of iPhones and iPads back to the 5s and even 6th gen iPod Touch.
