On June 29, 2016, Times Square’s Madame Tussauds Wax Museum hosted a trial run of The Void’s Ghostbusters: Dimension, where users become ghostbusters through virtual reality and wax museum staging in a “hyper-real” world. Part of a larger virtual reality exhibit based on the new Ghostbusters movie, Dimension stages a real world mapped to a virtual one enhanced and enabled by a high-end headset, a haptic vest, a backpack computer, and a sophisticated tracking system. This unique immersive experience combines virtual reality with the real-world sensations of speech, sight, and touch into a mind-blowing experience. Ghostbusters: Dimension opens July 1st, with tickets available online for about $50. Both reviewers in this article agree that while there are some thumbs-down aspects of this VR experience, overall Ghostbusters: Dimension is worth the (short) time and cost.
