One year after creating its Virtual Reality Group, Getty Images, the official Rio Olympics photographer, has announced each of its photographers will be equipped with a 360-degree camera to capture the experience in virtual reality. This marks another step in the company’s promise to increase their involvement in virtual reality technology. Despite the fact that VR tools remain too expensive for most, the industry is looking to smartphone enhancements to eventually make virtual reality technology more affordable. In the meantime, many look forward to viewing the Rio Olympics through the availability of Getty’s 360-degree images.
