Announced last week by HTC, a collaboration with Intel has resulted in a WiGig powered wireless VR solution to “rid us of those pesky cables.” The upcoming E3 convention beginning June 13th will be the event at which a demonstration of the WiGig technology is expected to intrigue E3 attendees. According to Intel, WiGig is a wireless multi-gigabit networking standard that will dramatically increase over-the-air bandwidth over short distance, standard WiFi. Bundled with TPCAST’s WirelessHD, a 60Ghz Wireless Transmitter, users will be able to download and transfer files at faster rates, although both technologies remain challenged by line-of-sight blockages (walls, people, etc.). HTC has indicated a desire to bring on other companies for alternative solutions to enhance the wireless VR technology.
