Among the headliners of Sundance’s New Frontier showcase last week, Dear Angelica, Miyubi, and Out of Exile rated the best in cinematic virtual reality, which included 360-degree video as well as any VR observation (as opposed to interactive) experience. Another noted category, Interactive VR, rated video games, experimental art, and software tools within higher end platforms (Oculus, HTC). The best interactive VR projects were Mindshow, Chocolate, and The Sky is a Gap, rated winner and 1st and 2nd runners up, respectively. Augmented reality and virtual reality installations were other categories in which notable achievements were showcased at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
